What's New Here?

I am not a professional hiker nor am I much of an athlete and the decision to explore Vienna was impromptu. I have no idea what hikers take with them on their journey. I do not know how people can actually read a map because to me it is a jumble of random lines running from anywhere to everywhere. I am also happily unaware of the kind of lodging the professional hikers look for when they embark on their journey.

In spite of all the ignorance and lack of concern, I set out to unravel one of the world?s closest places to paradise. Vienna's hiking trails run for near about 500 kilometers and are mostly through the woods which is on the city?s edge or they run through the local recreation areas in Vienna. The infrastructure system is so convenient that these trails can be reached by any form of public transport. There are numerous boarding houses and restaurants en route which give you a warm welcome anytime you are in them.

I am going to be honest with you. I chose the shortest hiking route and went on a 5 kilometer trip on the Bisamberg. It was more of an educational trip. Walking down the neatly trimmed vineyards and oak woods, I got to learn more of the city?s cultural heritage and experienced an interesting as well as surprising history of Vienna. If you have Providence favouring you, you may even discover a rare variety of orchid that grows in this region.

Since I most certainly was not going to spend my Euros in just hiking, I decided that it was time I begin to go visit the prominent tourist destinations in the city. It was difficult enough to read a map but to find an empty place to place myself for the nights to come was even perilous. Finally, after having checked into one of the cozy, comfortable rest houses and feeling more at ease with the whole ?travel without a plan? theme, I began to spot the famous Vienna tourist places. As you may have guessed by now, it was not all that difficult.

Believe it or not, this romantic and imperial city houses the world?s finest museum, The Museum of Fine Arts. So beautiful is the architectural wonder of the city?s underground stations that even they feature on the catalogue for listed properties. If you are lost in any of the alleys or passages in the city of music, consider it lucky, because with every corner in every street that you wander, you get the opportunity to witness more of the city makers? creativity.

It does not matter in what manner one takes a holiday to Vienna. The Schönbrunn Palace or the summer residence is one of the most beautiful cultural monuments ever to have stood on the face of the earth and is a major hub of tourists all round the year. The winter residence or the Hofburg Palace holds one of the most popular museums which is frequented by tourists every year.

During the course of my trip, I stayed at a bed and breakfast place, a hostel, a motel and finally the airport lounge. What I learned from the trip was that coming unprepared pays off. It works this way- if your destination is worthwhile, you automatically find yourself fitting in, and if it turns out to be the other way round, it is a hint that you plan. Vienna- the city of art, beauty, music, culture, literature and fantastic weather was a marvelous experience for me and en extremely enriching one. I still remain an ignorant, spontaneous traveler and I continue to enjoy all the trips which I undertake around the world, though I really cannot vouch the same for the people who travel along with me.

Also finding Cheap flights, airline tickets, hotels, car rental and vacation  package is now very easy. When it comes to retirement activities, traveling is one of the most popular options for people. There are so many great destinations to see and now is a better time than ever to just get away, no matter what you have in mind. Taking holidays isn't expensive if you know how to shop around for the best deals, after all. The one thing that stops many retirees from traveling is their health. Because of fears or health issues that require medical attention to always be nearby, some people are stifled and remain at home simply because it's easier than trying to get out there and explore the world around them.

Fortunately, the best medical alert systems are designed to be taken on the go, allowing people to summon emergency help at the push of a button. While this might not seem like the most appealing addition to your vacation attire, it is a great way for people to travel the world when they aren't sure about their own state of health or what they can expect to get from local medical services wherever they are. Some of these devices are programmed to work with certain emergency services. Others will call whatever numbers you program into them. Therefore, it's easy to make your device travel-friendly so that you can trust that you're safe on the go.

Some people don't realize the value of personal alert systems when it comes to travel. These are typically assumed to be devices that work great around the home, but that's it. The reality is that technology is creating better alert systems that can keep people safe at home and out in the world, making it easy for them to enjoy retirement without the risks or uncertainty of traveling in a new place and not knowing where or how to find emergency medical services.

Medical alert systems are designed to give people more independence and peace of mind around the home, but technology is making it easier for people to utilize these systems in a variety of ways. When you find a personal alert system that allows you to get out and see the world like you've always wanted, you should take advantage of that. There are so many great places to see and things to do in the world around you and retirement gives you the opportunity to capitalize on those opportunities. Why let something like your concern or need for medical services slow you down?

Traveling is something that everyone should be able to enjoy, no matter their age or stage of life. Whether you want to take occasional trips or just explore the world during your retirement, you should be able to enjoy that just as much as anyone else. There are so many great places to see and things that you can do in the world. Plus, with all of the discounts that are available to older travelers, it just makes sense to take advantage of this time in your life. You can get great vacations for a lot less than you might expect, and you shouldn't let anything stop you from enjoying that. Travel is something that can provide a variety of different experiences for everyone. When you are looking to travel during your retirement but you aren't sure because of your medical needs or concerns, the personal alert system is a great investment.

New York is known to be one of the most impressive cities in the world but can be quite hectic for children. Luckily there are many fantastic family activities and events to attend in New York. Below, I have listed some family activities to make sure your children will never forget this remarkable city.

6. Big apple circus
Go see the world´s funniest and most amazing circus acts in the Big Apple circus. Acrobats, jugglers, spirited horses, a capybara, comical conjurors, trapeze flyers and many other acts will make sure your children will never forget this mind blowing event

5. Toys R us
If you really want to do something fun for your kids, you have to go see the huge Toys R us store located on Times Square. This will probably be the biggest toy store you have ever seen. You could literally spend days in this store. Besides the huge collection of toys, this store has a Ferris wheel, a 20 feet tall T-Rex, a sweet shop and a great atmosphere. Even adults could spend hours in this store.

4. American museum of natural history
Take a trip back in time and visit the museum of natural history. This museum is one of the largest, dazzling and most famous museums in the world. This museum has several different halls, each having their own theme. Dinosaurs, ocean life, outer space, they have it all in the museum of natural history. They also have a butterfly conservatory with more than 500 free flying colored butterflies. It is really eye stunning. Other activities are a fossil finding mission with flash light and space show. Your kids will love this fantastic family activity.

3. Do a helicopter sightseeing tour.
The most exciting and spectacular way to see the great New York City is by doing a helicopter sightseeing tour. You will have the chance to see the great New York City landmarks. For the kids, this will be an experience they will never forget. Flying over the great city of New York, you will see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Governors Island, the New York bridges, the Statue of Liberty and other skyscrapers. New York City looks really beautiful from above. And for the kids, flying in a helicopter is an amazing experience alone.

2. The Bronx zoo

If you want to get away from the crowd for a day, the Bronx zoo is a great solution. This big zoo is a great activity for a perfect family day. This zoo is an only 5 minute drive out of Manhattan. It has over 4000 animals of 500 species. You can see the most rare and exotic animals from all around the world. There are also other fun activities like animal feeding and fun shows.

1.  Disney Broadway show
If you are looking for an activity to do with your family, you should catch a Disney Broadway show. There are several Disney Broadway shows like the Lion King, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast and many others. Personally I advise you to see the Lion King and Blue Man Group. The Lion King is an amazing musical and a guarantee that kids will love it. Blue Man Group is a bit different. They do unusual things with paint, music and weird objects. It is kind of like a magic show. But Blue Man Group is also an amazing show.

I think these are the funnest family activities to do in NYC. If you have any comments or family activities you would like to add, I will be happy to hear them.

Some accommodations cost more than they are worth. Some accommodations are worth less than any price given. The world renowned Chelsea Hotel in New York City is a national historic landmark, but it is one of those places some people think of as worse than The Bates Motel.

A quick perusal of reviews about the Chelsea range from disgusting to fabulous, and you will note that there appears to be little middle ground. 1 star and 5 stars are more common than anything in between.

Only one phenomenon I can think of can explain this: there must be people for whom adventure is more important than luxury. These are the people who would rent a room at The Bates Motel. I know these people exist, because I am one of them. Our passion for the eclectic and unique may redefine Cheap City Breaks.

During my most recent stay in New York I decided to do some adventure hoteling myself. I was asked to come down to New York City to join the Welsh Society's Saint David's Day event honoring Catherine Zeta-Jones. (Of course, everyone has been asking me if she is as pretty in person as on screen. This is my un-doctored amateur photograph. You can judge for yourself.

I have not been enthusiastic in my past visits to New York City, so I decided I would do something unique. Wales' most famous poet in the 20th century, Dylan Thomas, was found unconscious in room 205 of the Chelsea Hotel and died two days later of supposed alcohol poisoning. The young musician Bob Zimmerman stayed in that same room some years later, and changed his last name to Dylan. Nancy, the girlfriend of Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols was found murdered in room 100, and the list of stories and famous musicians and writers who have lived in the Chelsea goes on. My reason for wanting to stay at the Chelsea was based on the history of Dylan Thomas. The price was about one third lower than other options I was given by friends.

The Chelsea is still a live-in residence through 3/4 of the hotel, and the residents have a blog describing the Chelsea as "The Last Outpost of Bohemia", but 100 rooms are set aside for rental to travelers. I checked into the Chelsea Hotel earlier than the 3pm check-in time, and it was not a problem. The lobby was small, but fun and filled with eclectic art and friendly people. To my wonderful surprise I was given room 206, just across the hall from the famous Dylan Thomas room.

People were friendly. Every floor was like a modern art gallery with paintings, photography, and collages on the walls. The room came with a shared bath down the hall. It was a clean, but very old room in want of renovation. There was no hot water in that afternoon, but the water was nice and hot the next morning.

I would stay there again, but that is because I am of the class of people who stay at The Bates Motel, because it is The Bates Motel. The Hotel Chelsea is an adventure in history.

Last year I climbed Cadair Idris and slept on the famous Welsh mountain, because the legend says that in doing so one will either become a poet or a madman. In further hopes of gaining the inspiration of the great bards I spent the night at the Chelsea, and slept with the ghost of Dylan Thomas.

Okay, Dylan didn't really visit me during the night, and I didn't see any apparitions, but having stayed there has brought inspiration in itself. Perhaps a bard is nothing more than a person who finds the adventure in common things, and learns how to pass it on to others in written or spoken word. Today the words above the door of room 205 read "Bring Back the Bards!" Of course, it is probably a reference to the the previous proprietor Stanley Bard who is talking about purchasing the whole of the hotel back from the shareholders, but the double entendre is not lost. The Chelsea may not be luxury, but it just may inspire the bard deep inside you.
